10 Reasons to Start Surfing (Part I)
The outdoors is our favourite fitness center and leading an active life is always beneficial... but why not add something we truly love in the recipe for success?
Surfing is an unique activity with countless benefits, but as we like to make your life easier we highlight five big reasons why you shouldn’t wait another minute to grab your surfboard and ride the waves.
1 – BETTER THAN THE GYM
Surfing is one of the most complete sports you can do – plus, it takes place outdoors! Additionally, between paddling through the current and all that extra effort to catch that beautiful wave, it requires agility, stamina, balance, endurance and explosive force, and in the meantime you have to always keep your core strong and steady. It’s the perfect combination between aerobic and anaerobic exercise, and actually, you’ll feel so relaxed after a session in the sun and breathing that healthy sea air that you’ll feel like a brand new person.
2 – IT NEVER GETS BORING
A wave is never the same as another wave, and one session is never remotely like another session. You never really know what Nature has in store for you, and that’s one of the greatest challenges (and pleasures) of surfing.
3 – KILLING THE DAILY STRESS
Surfing allows you to awake your deepest instincts and to use them in a positive way. Therefore, you can use the adrenaline of work stress and the economic crisis in your surfing performance, sparing your personal relatioships from unexpected emotional explosions.
4 – THE CULTURE OF COMMUNITY
Despite being and individualist sport, surf carries with it a profound sense of community and mutual help as well as the pleasure to share waves and experiences with others.
5 – HEALTHY COLORS – ALL YEAR LONG
Evereyone LOVES that healthy skin color that being in the sun allows you to have, but a nice, natural tan isn’t easy for everybody... well, at least if you’re not surfing! But if you are, chances are you will also get the amazing hormonal benefits that come from being exposed to all that sunlight, as well as getting a nice amount of vitamin D. And these are just some of the many, many advantages of spending hours in the water so... what are you waiting for? Grab your sun screen and go catch those amazing waves!
